The origins of name Aliki are indeed somewhat complicated; the Greek Orthodox Church chose to adopt the same calendar entry with the Russian Church regarding the name Aliki. Therefore, name Aliki is associated with Empress Alexandra Feodorovna of Russia, born Princess Alix of Hesse and by Rhine.

Born a grand-daughter of Queen Victoria of England, Alix was given the name Alexandra Feodorovna, when she was received into the Russian Orthodox Church that canonized her as Saint Alexandra the Passion Bearer in 2000.

Alexandra was the last Tsarina of Russia, known for her support of the autocratic control over the country. Alexandra or Alix was notoriously associated with the Russian mystic Grigori Rasputin.

Alexandra was noted for her piety and compassion for the poor and suffering. She had five children with Tsar Nicholas and they were beloved  for their kindness, modesty, and guilelessness. in 1917, when the turmoil started in Russia, Tsar Nicholas selflessly abdicated the throne. The revolutionaries put the Tsar Family into house imprisonment and then sent them to Ekaterinburg. After many months of imprisonment the Tsar and Tsarina were stabbed to death in Ekaterinburg in 1918.

The Russian Church venerated Alexandra and Nicholas Saints, and celebrates the memory of the Tsaritsa on July 17th. The Greek Orthodox Church, following the same calendar, celebrates the memory of Alexandra or Alix on the same day. Since Aliki is a name associated with Alix, the nameday of Aliki is on July 17th.
