Origin of name Theocharis – Agios Theocharis from Asia Minor

Theocharis was a young man who lived in Asia minor in 1740AD. He was in Kapadokya but he stood out due to his beauty and nice manors. The ruler of the region took him to his home to take care of his horses, and then he asked him to marry his daughter, but also become a Muslim first. Theocharis refused, saying that he is a Christian and he would not change his faith. The ruler threatened him with imprisonment and jail, but Theocharis refused again. He was stoned to death and then hanged, on August 20th 1740.

In 1923 AD the remains of Agios Theocharis arrived in Thessaloníki and were placed at the Temple of St Catherine in the city.
