The name Eftichis derives from the name Eftichios, therefore is associated with the man who lived in the 6th century AD, during the reign of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian.
Eftichios was a man who lived in Frygia, but received Christian education since his early years. He became a man of the Church and went to Constantinople where he became a bishop. He became a very important person in the religious matters of the ruling capital of Europe at that time, but he had to face a lot of controversies that were taking place at that time among the Christians.
Eftichios lost his position for a brief period of time because Justinian was badly influenced by the non Orthodox Christians, but his position was restored a few years later during the reign of Tiberius, when he became a Patriarch of Constantinople.
Eftichios died in peace and was declared a Saint by the Greek Orthodox Church. The memory of St Eftichios is celebrated on April 6th.
However, the name Eftichis is also associated with Agios Eftichis (St Eftichis) a man who was the student of Agios Ioannis (St John), and preached the word of God and was thrown to jail for many years by the Pagan rulers. Since he managed to survive all the tortures he was released. He died and received the title of Martyr from the Greek Orthodox Church and his memory is celebrated on August 24th. Therefore, in this case Eftichis is a main name itself.
